Q

Could you tell me what year the Grahamstown Training College opened

I was doing family history and my daughter did her training there and was there in their final year. Was very interested to know exactly when this wonderful College first opened its doors.

Answer

The Grahamstown Training College, initially known as the Grahamstown Training School, openend its doors in 1894, with a total of 8 pupil-teachers and a staff of 4. The college's archive, containing a range of official papers and correspondence, admission registers and mark schedules, photographs, books and pamphlets, as well as memorabilia donated by past students, is housed in the Cory Library.
